My wedding day was magical but if I had to do one thing differently I would have checked on the wedding cake the day before the wedding. My wedding cake vendor delivered the wrong cake and claimed that is what I had ordered. I was very upset with the way in which it was handled post wedding BUT if I would have checked/viewed the cake the day before the wedding, perhaps it could have been avoided. The bakery is in Scarsdale, NY and they are well known but their customer service leaves much to be desired.

Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t quite a newlywed–she and Matthew Broderick were married in 1997. But she did recently say that she regrets wearing a black wedding dress. Yes, BLACK. Of course, in the picture below, she’s Carrie Bradshaw of Sex & The City, wearing a stunning Vivienne Westwood gown and looking not all that glam here…

I’m lucky enough to have had an almost perfect wedding day. It was definitely one of dreams and the happiest day of my life. But there’s always the post wedding regrets. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would have put my hair in rollers before having it curled since with the humidity and dampness by the end of my ceremony, my hair was flat. I would have asked one of my fifteen bridesmaids to remind me to put down my veil before I walked down the aisle. Halfway down was way too late.

I would have turned my face towards the camera while at the altar as opposed to having a piece of a curl hiding my expressions. I would have asked for a mock-up of my bridesmaids bouquets and asked for more than one type of flower. I love orchids but they really do look better when combined with other flowers. I would have put on individual lashes instead of a full set that started lifting once the glue melted. I would have used more color on my lips instead of the traditional pale hews favored by some brides. Color looks better in pictures.

I would have stayed at the sweetheart table a little longer to relish the moment with my groom instead of jumping up to mingle. I would have gone to my cocktail hour and not wasted time fixing my hair. I would have eaten more than once piece of cake since it was the best I’ve ever had. I would have played pictures taken during the wedding at my reception. I would have ignored the traditions and had my father in law and my siblings each say something at the reception instead of just the best man and my father. But, most of all I would have made my day last for more than just a fleeting moment.

If I could have done anything differently it would be the bridesmaid dresses. I choose dresses that were not bridesmaidy at all; they were actually a bit sexy (we all hate wearing frumpy bridesmaid dresses). Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t revealing, just a tad too tight. All of the ladies looked great, but I could tell they were uncomfortable!

I loved everything about my November, 2007 wedding day. I had close to 200 people in an elegant ballroom. It was an amazing time, but if I were given the opportunity to do it again, I would consider hosting a smaller crowd in a more personal venue. A catering hall is a wonderful option because they offer everything from soup to nuts, but I would’ve loved the opportunity to tailor the menu and the overall feel of the event to suit my fall theme. I’ve always lusted over pictures of those Martha Stewart-esque weddings at a vineyard or held in a rustic barn, but I think that type of wedding lends itself to a more intimate gathering.

I was recently married on April 25, 2009 at The Swan Club in Roslyn, NY. Although my wedding was perfect in my own mind, there was one thing I would have done differently. When searching for a reception site, I would have asked more questions regarding our photography time frame and their restrictions. I would have asked for more specifics in how they deal with multiple brides. I may have even searched harder for a one-wedding only location. The photographer and I were not properly prepared for what took place on the day of. Because there was a bride ahead of me and one shortly after, in terms of their receptions, there were many restrictions on where we could be and when. It added to sun light issues and confusion among everyone. It made it also look as if my photographer had no idea what she was doing, and yet she was dealing with an annoyed bride and a frustrated Maitre de.
