Ask Jody: Casual Wedding, Low Budget

Alana, Middle Village

Q:  I have looked through the site already at similar posts to mine and found some great suggestions, but still not exactly what I’m looking for.   I’m on a budget- (of course).  Planning for 100-125 guests for Fall 2014.  I love the idea of a more casual/rustic wedding.  I was looking at the Hallockville Barn and Queens Farm but I’m concerned with all the DIY rental needs of those spaces that pricing would shoot way up.  Any suggestions for a casual space, that will at least supply and help with somethings?  Or if not a a restaurant or a hall that would provide a more rustic feel…

A:  The Old Field Club in East Setauket is always my first suggestion for a rustic venue that includes all the basics. You don’t have to worry about a site fee or extra rentals. They offer a ‘cocktail style’ menu that would cut costs and keep the atmosphere more casual. This venue is on the smaller side, but 100-125 guests is perfect. There are also a variety of rooms available at the Fox Hollow Country Club that have a ‘rustic’ feel. The best part of this venue is that it is connected to the Inn at Fox Hollow, a full service hotel, so the convenience for your guests is unbeatable! They also have a new wine bar in the hotel called Vintage 25, which is a great spot for an after party.
