Ask Jody: Outdoors but No Tent Wanted

Michelle, Stony Brook

Q:  Is there anywhere that has a rustic/garden feel on the east end that you DO NOT need a tent for?

A:  Hi Michelle,  Congratulations!   Brecknock Hall is a beautiful venue in Greenport that offers a scenic outdoor space. The ceremony and reception can be held on the great lawn surrounding the historic mansion.   The Old Field Club in Setauket is a beautiful venue that overlooks the West Meadow Creek. The ceremony can also be held outdoors as well as the cocktail hour.   If you can compromise on location, Westbury Gardens in Nassau county may be exactly what you are looking for… there are beautiful, lush gardens where your ceremony and reception can take place.

Note:  An outdoor wedding reception without a tent can be extremely risky, since weather on Long Island is so unpredictable. If you decide to forgo the tent, be sure to have a rain plan in place.  Good luck!

  • hi Michelle.
You didn’t mention your guest count but have you taken a peek at the Barn at Martha Clara Vineyards? Would be perfect and can accomodate up to 210. And if you wanted something a little more close to home, The Bates House in Setauket is literally in the woods and is located on a nature preserve. They can host 120 guests.
    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the extra tips, Linda, especially about The Bates House!
