Q: Hi. budget is a BIG issue, but we really want a place we can make our own. Like a blank canvas, but those seem to be more expensive because you’re paying for the novelty. Any venues you know that you can make your own, but be extremely affordable?
A: Hi Victoria. I always suggest a couple things when I am working with clients on a strict budget: 1) Opt for a Friday or Sunday date instead of a Saturday. Saturday nights are the most expensive. 2) Your menu will ultimately determine your price per person. Extend cocktail hour for a more casual wedding atmosphere, instead of a seated dinner. Having a few stations and passed hors d’oeuvres throughout the reception, instead of a seated reception can cut costs. Definitely visit H On the Harbor in Port Washington and the Old Field Club in East Setauket. Both venues have fairly blank canvases, which allows you to make the space your own. Best of luck!

If you’re looking for a blank canvas, you might also consider a different kind of event space such as a barn. the Naugles Barn at Hallockville can be customized by each couple so no two weddings are alike. And, with no required vendors, couples are free to shop around and find the ones that fit their budget the best.
