Grand Velas Riviera Maya HONEYMOONS
As a bridal blogger, I’m really fortunate that I get to travel to various destinations to check out places for you — and I have to say, I was truly enriched when I recently stayed at the all-inclusive, Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun, Mexico. Because this is the sort of property that sets the bar at a high peak. Not only are the grounds immaculate, but if you are looking for peace and tranquility on your honeymoon, this is the perfect luxury accommodation.
So let me start at the beginning. On arrival, you are greeted by not only staff members who are friendly as they hand you a cool beverage and a moist (and plush) face towel, but they are also courteous and respectful. Honestly, I do enjoy the VIP treatment even though we all know that I’m not a VIP.
Checking into an oceanfront suite in the adult section of the resort (there are three different areas but you’ll want the adult section — trust me on this), which is far left (viewing from the water), of the rest of the property, one can’t help but gasp. My room was spacious and bright — king bed, separate seating area with a couch and coffee table, pop-up and swivel flat screen TV, massive bathroom with whirlpool tub and rain shower large enough for two – with a stunning, full-blown view of the Caribbean from every inch of the space, including the glass shower. As a bonus, each room includes a large terrace with comfy outdoor furniture and a plunge pool.
Now when you think of all-inclusive, typically what comes to mind is crowded dining and sub-par food cooked for the masses. But here, there are eight outstanding gourmet restaurants, each offering varying international cuisine and unique decor. Reservations are required but don’t skip the pool-front buffets, which are excellent, as well. This is their version of a breakfast burrito…
…and fruit salad.
Sadly, girls, when it comes to dessert I’m a bit of a vulture, so I went for this instead (which came in unlimited supplies!)…
But who cares when you’re on vacation…and can follow a decadent dessert orgy by laying around an infinity pool that looks like this?
If you’re the type of couple that require activity, there’s plenty to do at the Riviera Maya, including a visit to Xcaret, a massive eco-archeological park with loads of attractions, exhibits, events and activities. It’s a day trip, so take your bathing suits and soak up the fun in the sun.
Once back at the blissful oasis that is Grand Velas, be sure to make a few spa appointments. Having been to a number of destination spas, I can honestly say that this is at the top. The design alone is breathtaking – with 89,305 square feet containing 40 treatment suites. When there, don’t skip the pre-treatment water journey, which includes:
- Color Therapy Steam
- Clay Room
- Ice Room
- Experience Showers
- Polar Pool
It concludes with a tranquil soak in this gargantuan-sized water feature …
After your ultra-relaxing pre-treatments, you are ready for your ultra-relaxing massage…
Just looking back at these images makes me want to pack a bag and call a cab to the airport. Serenity, now!!
