Long Island Clambakes DETAILS & IDEAS

Brides, check out this recent New York Times article on Long Island companies that cater clambakes — a wedding reception idea that we absolutely LOVE.   If you agree, here’s  a list of some companies that cater clambakes on Long Island.   Prices below include paper goods but exclude beverages; arrangements for bar service vary by company.

EAST HAMPTON Hampton Clambake and Catering Company, 283 Pantigo Road; (631) 324-8620 or hamptonclambake.com.

Catered clambakes, $70 to $90 per person, plus labor, tax and 20 percent gratuity. The labor cost for a 50-person clambake would typically run about $1,000 (a staff of six for five hours). During high season, there is a 25-person minimum.

For $70 per person, the deluxe clambake menu includes guacamole and salsa and chips, steamed mussels and clams, a seared tuna appetizer, a pound-and-a-quarter lobster, grilled chicken, corn, smashed potatoes and strawberry shortcake.

Retail take-out and catering at the Millers B.B.Q. and at Food & Co., 283 Pantigo Road, East Hampton; (631) 329-1000. themillersbbq.net; foodandco.com.

SELDEN Long Island Chowda Company, Post Office Box 560; (631) 255-1114 or lichowda.com.

Clambakes, $59.95 per person, all-inclusive, for a meal that includes steamers, chowder or salad, a pound-and-a-half lobster, clams, mussels, corn, chorizo, smashed potatoes, coleslaw and watermelon or Italian ices. There is a 10-person minimum. Extra workers are generally required, at an extra cost, for parties of more than 35.

Unlike the other two companies, which fully crack the lobster, the company splits the lobster tails, but not the claws. For an additional $5 per lobster, the chefs will break down the lobster so that crackers are not required.

SOUTHAMPTON East End Clambakes, 590 County Road 39; (631) 726-6351 or clambake.hamptons.com.

Clambakes, $75 to $90 a person, plus labor, tax and gratuity. There is a 20-person minimum on weekends during high season.

The $75 clambake includes steamed mussels and clams, shrimp cocktail, a pound-and-a-quarter lobster, barbecue chicken, corn, coleslaw and watermelon.

The company has a retail market with a take-out menu and several umbrella tables on the patio that serve as outdoor seating.
