We want to use only videographers that are recommended by friends who are just married but the problem is we have many different recommendations so it’s hard for us to go with one company. The fees are somewhat similar so I guess it boils down to personalities…

Friends of mine hired a videographer they were referred to by the venue they picked. The price was right and the sample tapes were great. Their video was ready 3 weeks after the wedding – and when they went to pick up the DVD the company told them that everyone looked like they were having so much fun at the reception that they felt bad cutting any of it and gave them a separate DVD of just the reception. I will definitely be hiring this company because they don’t look at it as a paycheck, they really focus moment and they have vested interest in the couple.

My husband and I looked at two videographers. The first guy was so proud because the reception had the Aladdin theme–everything from a guy dressed like a blue genie to ice sculptures of characters from the movie. At the end of the couple’s video, the guy had spliced in the very end of the actual cartoon, Aladdin.
Since I work as a writer, copyright means a lot to me. When I asked the guy about it, it brushed it off like it was no big deal.
For many reasons, not just this one, we decided to go with another videographer. When my husband called him (he asked how he could help with the wedding, so I made him the “hatchet man”) and said that we had decided to go with someone else, the videographer started screaming his brains out at my husband saying that he couldn’t believe he spent so much time with us (um, an hour is a lot of time?) and hung up on him.
Needless to say, we know we made the right decision. That’s the last thing we would have needed at our wedding reception–a video guy who screamed his brains out at the guests…

We went to a friend’s wedding last year. It was a great wedding and they were very happy with their video guy. All through the reception the video people were shooting away, but we noticed there was also a teenage girl with a video camera during the entire party. Well, we went to our friend’s house months after the wedding to look at the video, but there were two different ones to look at – the professional one and then the one their niece took and edited on her own (she learned this at her high school). Well, it was an amazing movie for someone so young! We were all so impressed by it that we decided to hire her for our wedding too (in addition to the professional guys)! It will be really fun to get her perspective and footage that maybe the pros won’t get or will edit! We’re going to introduce her to everyone that’s important to us on the big day, of course, but we’re really excited about this! And her fee is super cheap!
