Ask Claudia: House Vendors

Jennifer, Ozone Park

Q:  I know that vendors often pay a great deal of money to be “house vendors” at a certain reception hall. Other than their meals being free, is there an advantage to using these vendors? Is there a disadvantage? These seem to be the most expensive vendors sometimes!

A:  Jennifer, that’s a great question.  In my opinion, if you are a bride, the appeal of using these house vendors would be mainly convenience.  In other words, you have a ready-made list of potential vendors who work with the venues often (presumably), so this saves you the time and energy required to scout them out yourselves.   Often, these vendors are reputable, otherwise, the venues would be at risk of their own reputations suffering by offering them to their clients.   However, while they may be reputable, they may not necessarily offer what you are seeking in terms of budget, quality, flexibility, variety, etc.
