  • Key to any budget is a hard conversation about what you really need, how much you can afford, and when you can and should pay for it. For wedding photography, think about what you need coverage wise….are getting ready photos really important to you? How long do you need photo coverage for the day? What about output….think about what you want as the end result. Sure, a disk of images sounds great, but will you ever really take the time to create an album, even with the consumer level Snapfish type books? Or will those images perish on a hard drive somewhere on your PC after a few make it onto Facebook or your iPhone?
A budget is not just about the total available to spend, but how to best match those funds to what you really need.
When negotiating with vendors, ask if there is a lower priced alternative if there is a product or service you really want, but can not afford. Often times there is.
Also, inquire as to when payment must be made for each product or service. For example, wedding albums and parent books can be a significant investment, but often times payment for these items can be delayed until after the wedding, when you are likely to have gift money available.
Shop wisely, matching your true needs to your wallet.
