“I Don’t” to Same Sex Weddings in NY — IN THE NEWS
A bill that would have allowed same sex couples to get married was rejected yesterday by the New York State Senate. Couples who want to get married can still do it, but not anywhere on Long Island and other parts of New York. Instead, they are free to wed in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. As of January 2010, New Hampshire will also allow same sex weddings.
What do you think about this, Brides, as you look forward to your wedding plans with excitement and anticipation?

One reason I waited as long as I did to get married was, our gay friends did not enjoy the same privilege. (We’re in Massachusetts.) It’s a matter of time, of course. New York will see gay weddings–and sooner, not later.

Not a bride to be and not into same-sex marriage for myself, I have no problem with what other people want in their own relationships. Neither do I have a problem with what the states do in terms of making this legal or not legal. That’s a greater issue than I have any say about. I do, however, live in a state where same-sex marriage is not allowed, and I know same-sex couples here who would love to be married legally but can’t. I don’t hear them complaining about that. I hear them worrying more about end-of-life issues, or insurance and financial matters. The marriage certificate doesn’t seem to be the REAL concern. It wouldn’t be for me, either.
