Ask Claudia: Avoiding Boring Bridal Shower

Gina, East Northport

Q:  I was just wondering if you had any ideas for bridal showers.. I’m having one for my daughter in a traditional venue, but they are sooo boring I was wondering if you had any ideas to make it a little interesting.  I considered a male stripper to help  her open her gifts but she would never speak to me again.  Let me know if you have any ideas.

A:  Gina, to make bridal showers more fun these days, it’s nice to bring someone into the party — for example, DJ Chef cooks (and flirts) and spins music for a lively party.  If guests are  into wine, you can hire Swirl Events to come to the party and teach everyone about wine pairings.

Want something a little more racy?  I have not personally screened this out yet, but the off-Broadway show, Puppetry of the Penis is now doing at-home bachelorette parties and showers.

Another idea is to host the party on wheels with a Sex & the City tour in New York City, if the girls are fans of the show (the Sex & The City movie sequel will be released next spring) –  it’s a really fun activity with several stops along the way, plus treats from Magnolia Bakery.

There are also fun games you can download online, specifically for showers…
