The Newlywed Forum: If I Could Plan My Wedding Again, What I’d Do Differently…

I was recently married on April 25, 2009 at The Swan Club in Roslyn, NY.  Although my wedding was perfect in my own mind, there was one thing I would have done differently.  When searching for a reception site, I would have asked more questions regarding our photography time frame and their restrictions.  I would have asked for more specifics in how they deal with multiple brides.  I may have even searched harder for a one-wedding only location.  The photographer and I were not properly prepared for what took place on the day of.  Because there was a bride ahead of me and one shortly after, in terms of their receptions, there were many restrictions on where we could be and when.  It added to sun light issues and confusion among everyone.  It made it also look as if my photographer had no idea what she was doing, and yet she was dealing with an annoyed bride and a frustrated Maitre de.

  • Many multi-event venues have restrictions on when couples can arrive prior to their ceremonies/receptions. It’s very different when dealing with a facility that does only one event per day and slightly different when the venue does one event at a time, meaning they could have both a daytime and evening event.

Just so you’re aware of the logic of this, every facility wants their brides and grooms to feel special. Arrival times are given so that you don’t ‘collide’ with other couples having their weddings at the same place.

  • This is great advice! I decided on my venue (which had a one event a day rule) because I had heard too many horror stories about places that held multiple functions.

I agree. It’s something to keep in mind when booking the venue, for sure!
